I am traveling to Paris on business, and will then be visiting Normandy, Liechtenstein, Florance, and Rome before I have to come home. :(

On the road to Bayeux

I did not wake up until around 9:30 today, which was great, as I can’t remember the last time I had more than 6 hours of sleep. Mont St. Michel is very quiet in the morning, and I spent about an hour just sitting on a ledge at the very top watching the ocean.

I didn’t really have a plan as to how to spend the day, I just knew that I need to be in Bayeux around 3pm. I had a nice drive up the coast, and didn’t worry about getting lost too much as long as I was still heading in a generally north-east direction.  Around noon I was passing through a very small village and saw a man selling sasuages in a little park square. I stopped there for lunch and got a foot long spicy sasusage of some sort in fresh bread with some very good mustard.

I finally made it into Bayeux around 2:30 pm, and after some hunting around managed to find my hotel.

I am staying at a bed and breakfast called the “Hotel Tardif” which is an amazing place. If you ever come through Bayeux, I can not recommend it more. It is located in an 18th-century mansion situated on huge expanse of gardens right in the heart of the town. It could easily be a large hotel, but the family that owns it keeps it small enough to be classified as a bed and breakfast.

I spent the rest of the afternoon visiting the local cathereadal  and saw the Bayeux Tapestry. It is over 70 meters long and depicts the Duke of Normandy’s conquest over England. They are unsure of its date, but it appears to originate from the early 11th century, and is in remarkable shape given its age.

Tomorrow I head up to the D-day beaches, and will be staying in Bayeux for another night.
