No more work! (or the day I ate too much dessert)

Nice empty subway, early in the morning...

Yea! I am done with the working portion of my trip. You'll have to read on to find out about the dessert part.  :-)

I started work at 7am today, which is VERY early for Paris.  The subway is amazing at 6:30 in the morning as there were only two other people in my car, if I lived here I would make an effort to get to work early. Not much else to say about work, the morning went quickly, mostly just following up with people I had met earlier in the week.

I left the office around 1:30 and headed to the Louvre. When I arrived I noticed that there were people in suits sitting in front of all the ticket stands, and when I looked closer I noticed a hand written sign that read "Workers on Strike, FREE ENTRY".  Woo hoo!  I quickly went past the ticket checkpoint because they were due to start working again at any moment.

I had read about the strike yesterday, I guess they are unhappy with something, but instead of not showing up, or closing the place down, they just sit down and are happy to answer your questions, just not take your money. I like that kind of strike.

I spent about 3 hours walking through the various sections, I forgot how massive it is; you could spend days in there. I focused mostly on sculpture, but did go to the Italian painting section to see the Mona Lisa of course!

After the Louvre I walked down to the Arc de Triumphe (sore feet by this point), and caught the metro back to my hotel.  I've attached a bunch of pictures from the Louvre and the walk, they are a little rough, but post processing will have to wait until I get home.

For dinner I went back to the place where I had the rabbit, and made the mistake of ordering another steak. I’m sure there are places in Paris where you can get an excellent steak, but I haven’t found them yet.

It wasn’t awful, just not worth 12 euros in my opinion.  But, for dessert I decided to splurge on my last night and get something fancy, well I need to learn how to say “Is it very large” in French, because the plate they brought me could have fed a table of 4. Of course, I think it is illegal world-wide to leave dessert behind, so I managed to get it all down, but I’m regretting it a little bit now.

I am off to Normandy in the morning, taking a train to Le Mans, and then driving up to Mont St. Michel.  If you do not see another blog entry from me then you will know that my first experience driving in France did not go well.  :-o

David, hope your driving experience is going well, you are VERY brave!
Love reading your blogs, but for some reason they make me kind of hungry. Keep is coming, we are living vicariously (not spelled right) thru you.
Love janet
