A nine day early Spring drive around gorgeous South Island

Nelson Lakes National Park

The weather was still fine as I pulled into the Nelson Lakes Park, but it was already late and I'd have to hope the fine weather would hold out tomorrow.   Once again, I camped in the back of the station wagon.  But by morning my hopes were dashed yet again.  Overcast skies and some precipition.  I was determined not to let the weather get the best of me, so I set off on the steep hike up Mt Robert overlooking Lake Rotoiti, but only got a few hundred meters when it started snowing - hard.  And when the cold wind picked up, I knew I'd been beat yet again.  Back to the car, and heading up north to my next destination, Motueka and Abel Tasman Park.  Rats!
