Salem Lake in the winter

We drove over to Salem Lake again today - having seen it in summer and fall, we figured we shouldn't miss winter! Plus, the weather was sooo nice today! Sunny and cool, but not freezing.
We headed the "other direction" from what we've done the past few times, going backwards along the trail. First we ended up on the bike trail which was nicely paved, but narrow and had pretty much a steady stream of bikers (of all the nerve). :) Cassidy went wild with each passing person - she's just so friendly! We spent most of our walk teaching her to pay attention to us rather than others, and by the end of an hour or so she was walking fine even with the bikers whizzing past.
Eventually we passed a dam that I didn't know existed.
Once we reached our starting point at the "gorge" sign, we decided to walk a little along the lake since that's why we came anyway. Much more of a view afforded during winter since all the leaves are on the ground and not blocking your vision! The lake was very still and beautiful, and that half of the trail was, I think, less travelled than the beginning half, which was nice.
We crossed a pretty little bridge before heading back to the car. Craving baked goods we stopped at Krispy Kreme on the way home, but alas, the HOT sign was not lit. We forced ourselves, of course, to order donuts anyway and ate some on the way home. :)
