TB LIMA IDOLS 2008

Elena and I first arrived at 7pm and discovered that Stragos Karaoke will open at 8pm, so we took the opportunity to catch some dinner before the Meetup. We went to a Japanese restaurant next door and was shortly joined by Yadi, Cinthia, Carlos, Barat, Raul and Susan.

This was to be a mini Idols singing contest and awards were at stake here! The awards were for Best Duet, Sexiest/Most Passionate Singer, Best Dancer and, of course, the TB Lima Idol 2008 Award! The rules were simple, everyone would have a chance to sing at least one song (or more) or dance. Once we all had "performed our songs", everyone will vote for who they thought deserved the various awards. Only rule was that I shall not be in the run for the awards as I am the organiser, but I will participate to sing in duets.

After dinner, laying out of rules and introduction to everybody, we made our way to Stragos Karaoke to begin the showdown!

First up was Susan, who dressed appropriately for the sexiest outfit and would prove to be a hard contestant to beat! The challenge was on and some of us soon realised that improvisation was necessary. Some of us resorted to the cheapest tricks in the book and began flaunting and flirting with the audiences...hey, everyone for him/herself! :p There were dirty dancing, flying kisses and even Elena was showing off her sexy waistline! It was hot and intense...the battle was ON!!!

Speaking of intensity and using passion to win the crowd (and girls), Raul showed everyone he was as hot as "Enrique Iglesias" and mesmerized the entire floor with "Hero" in spanish. I knew that it was going to take a lot of steam and Amor to win the crowd over, but Nelly and I gave our best through another spanish lovehit duet "No Me Ames". The race was ON and we knew it was going to be even harder as underdogs Cinthia and I decided to turn up the heat with "Barbie Girl and Kent Doll"!!!

So you think you could dance, wait till you have seen Carlos, Susan, Yadi, Cinthia and Elena stealing the floor with their piping hot dancing shoes and shakira moves! We knew straight away it was not going to be about techniques, and determining the clear winner would have to be based on consistency and desperation for the award, eg standing and dancing to every tune!!!

While everyone was having a blast, Martin from Austria and his friend Miguel joined us and we were so impressed that having read the forum, they decided to take 2 buses all the way to San Borja to meet with the TBs. ..If there was an award for Best Groupies/Fan, they would win it!

By 11pm, it was time for the voting. It did not take very long for everyone to vote, but there were some clear winning results and close ties. Then it was time and everyone gathered eagerly for the announcement by me...

Best Duet went to Nelly and me with our "No Me Ames", but I disqualified myself and revealed that it was only appropriate that because Raul received tremendous crowd support for his award winning "Hero", the prize would be shared between Nelly and Raul! :)

Sexiest Award came to a tie between Susan, Yadi, Cinthia and Elena, but the winners agreed that Elena deserved the award the most! Congratulations to the Russian Girl!!! :)

Best Dancer went to Carlos for his outstanding performance singing AND dancing all through the night!!! Congratulations Carlos! :)

And the 2008 TB Lima Idol Award went to . .... (drum rolls) ..... Cinthia for her crowd-winning voice and entertainment value to the audience and TBs!!! Good Job Barbie! :)

By midnight, we had so much fun that some of us decided to continue with afterparty at Raul´s gorgeous apartment....more dancing and drinking followed through the night!

So...the first TB Lima Idol Meetup came to an end and I was extremely honoured by the warm support and enthusiasm from all participating TBs and friends for the first meetup that I organised in such a short time. Hopefully this is the first of many to come and I look forward to the next Idol!!!
