Ala dag, little village at the foot of Ala daglar mountains ( part of Taurus)
After a 2-hour drive from our pension in Göreme, we reached the starting point and met some other members of Demavend travel. Very friendly people and they were also surprised I could speak a little Turkish. For me it was really nice though to have a basic knowledge of the language. We got a very yummy meal accompanied again by some bees and tea and cookies afterwards. Here it struck me that people seem to be kinda poor but very happy. Some little children waved us goodbye in the village and off we go. They were so cute. This would be the first day of a 4-day trip in the Ala Daglar mountains which is part of Taurus. This was really a must for me to do as I had never been in ''real'' mountains before but I already knew that I am in fact more a mountaineer than a child of the sea.
taurus mountains start to rise
It was a nice first walk over a little road with solid underground and the mountains started to show themselves allready a bit to us. After 2 hours we reached the camp of that day. As I can never sit still anywhere, I decided to go up in order to have an overview. Our guide seemed to be very communicative and told us it was going to be an easy first trip.It was magnificent. Before me the Taurus mountains and behind me a stunning view of the surroundings we left earlier ago. I tried to see some capricorns but I didn't see any, maybe the following days! It also became clear why this part of the Taurus mountains are called Ala Daglar. This means red mountains. As the sun rises or sets, you immediately get the picture. In the evening, we heard strange little clinging noises in the distance.
It was a herd of sheep accompanied by dogs, mules and a man living in the mountains. They passed our camp and all of a sudden I was surrounded by sheep looking for food and a dog came to ''identify'' the new visitor. I'm glad I turned out to be OK for him and he kept on guiding the sheep further. After a delicious first meal in the mountains and a few jokes with the cook Jamale and tea off course, I decided to go to sleep but I couldn't! This is the reason : I had never seen such a fast appearance of the moon before and even our guide was impressed. At this point I decided to go up mount Emler 2 days later. It would be a long walk but really worth it. After having seen the rising moon, I went to my tent at ease and enjoyed the mountain sounds.
