Far East Plaza Shopping Centre

Singapore Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

While most people travel to sight-see, there is a select group of travellers who travel to shop. (My mum is one of them.) If you know me from Melbourne, you might wonder how the clothes seem to just appear in my cupboard every February, as I rarely shop in Australia. Well, South East Asia is the answer, and here are all my retail secrets revealed!

Far East Plaza Shopping Centre

The local hang-out for some young Singaporeans. I always find good shoes here. Far East Plaza is a shopping complex in the heart of 'down town' Singapore. If indeed it is possible for a city-state to have a 'down town'! As one of the older, more run-down shopping centres, it would be easy to overlook Far East Plaza in the wake of newer, shinier facades that seem to be popping up all over trendy Orchard Road.

Like I said, I come here for shoes. Most shoes average about $20-$25 Singapore dollars which isn't a bad deal really! In Melbourne you'd pay maybe 60 Aussie dollars for the exact same thing. El cheapo clothes can also be found in Far East Plaza, but if you really want to get out there, I hear you can get the odd piercing or tattoo in this building too.
