I went to a riot and a football (soccer)game broke out. What an experience. I love soccer and I've played and followed leagues from other countries for years, so when I got the chance to go to the Mecca of Football, well, I had to go. It was a double-header with a 7:00 and a 9:30pm game.
Arrive early to get tickets. I would suggest 1.5 hours before gametime. I waited until the line was at least 100 people deep. "Line" is a subjective word because it was really just a mass of people infront of the ticket office. "Ticket office" is also a subjective word because it was really a row of holes through bulletproof plexiglass reinforced with steel bars.
Anyway, an hour into waiting and my wife and I were about 4 people to one of the holes where our ticket awaits. Then the annoucement that the game is starting.
All hell broke loose. This was a scene from a police riot training film. People were yelling, pushing, hitting to get to the "hole". Like at a concert and your in the mosh pit. That was until the riot police came with thier billy clubs swinging like babe ruth. The police weren't interested in getting the trouble makers, they just hit anyone including me.
We eventually got our tickets and saw an amazing game. The brazilians are passionate people and very passionate about their football.
This was all for a football game. God it was a great night.
