After 5 months of hard work it was time to go to Amsterdam. The first leg was from Johannesburg to mombasa ( Kenia).A lot of preparation was done,in the aft cargo compartment a lot of spare parts where loaded in , inside the cabine we installed a spare main wheel ( it was to big for cargo door entrance) , gallons of drinking water, instand food and we filled up the plane with max fuel. The trip will took about 9 hrs ( a modern plane will do it in 3 hrs ), but we where flying on an altitude of 1000 to 3000 feet where it's possible and max was 9000 feet.A modern plane goes straight to 30000ft.

After a short briefing of the captain and a prayer of the flightengineer it was time to go.

....and after.
In the cabin everybody was quiet some of them where praying, some of them where stick with the nose to the window and some of the fell a sleep. After a long take off roll ( we were heavy and jo-burg is located on a high altitude) the plane lifted up and very slowly it was climbing higher and higher. At that time the people who where working so hard starts to let the emotions go and the tears starts flowing. In total we had 12 crew and 7 passengers aboard .When we reaced the flight level the engines where set to cruise rpm and everybody starts exited to talk and hug because we did it.

On our flight we passed the zambezi river, the beautiful african landscapes, sometimes we desented to 500 feet above the ground to see all the wild animals, we overflew the lake malawi,  passed  dar es salaam, low passed the beaches of zanzibar and up to mombasa.

After 9 hrs it was time to go down to earth and out of the dream where we into. Was it a dream?? no it was real. After a smooth landing we arrived in mombassa. The first leg was a big succes, we had to to some maintenance but we planned do that the next day, first it was time to drink an after landing beer.
