On July 4, 2008 I had the opportunity to drive back from North Carolina to my home in California . Instead of driving straight back like I did on the way to NC, I planned a long road trip to see as much of the US as possible. It came out to 31 days, 10,000 miles, and the experience of a lifetime. My main destinations were theme parks, but I made other stops as well. You never know what you will find along the road

Trainland USA

This is a large toy train museum just outside of Des Moines. Ironically, I also got here a little too early, but was able to come back in the middle of the day for about an hour. They have a large exhibit with different scenes that go from day to night, as well as a gift shop, and some old rolling stock outside. When I finished my road trip, I sent copies of my book to all the model railroad related stops.
