On July 4, 2008 I had the opportunity to drive back from North Carolina to my home in California . Instead of driving straight back like I did on the way to NC, I planned a long road trip to see as much of the US as possible. It came out to 31 days, 10,000 miles, and the experience of a lifetime. My main destinations were theme parks, but I made other stops as well. You never know what you will find along the road

Smoky Mountains National Park

This drive winds around and takes you up and over the Appalachians between North Carolina and Tennessee. Spectacular views. The first time I went through was years ago and it poured. Never could find the waterfall I saw. I got a picture of it then. There are plenty of places to stop to take in the view. You'll find yourself wanting to stop about every five minutes. be sure to go during the different seasons. It was green this time, in the fall the mountains are orange.
