On July 4, 2008 I had the opportunity to drive back from North Carolina to my home in California . Instead of driving straight back like I did on the way to NC, I planned a long road trip to see as much of the US as possible. It came out to 31 days, 10,000 miles, and the experience of a lifetime. My main destinations were theme parks, but I made other stops as well. You never know what you will find along the road

Shelburne Museum

I stumbled on this museum just by driving to the teddy bear factory, so I stopped, figuring it would be another small museum, but it covers about 45 acres! You could easily spend an entire day here. It also started as a carriage museum, but there is so much more. You culd really call it a museum city, with houses with art exhibits inside, barns, a train wth its own train station and even a ship! If you get tired of walking a bus will shuttle you around. They didn't give military discounts, so she gave me the teacher discount instead. I ran through the entire thing, and it still took several hours. This is Vermont' answer to the Smithsonian.

Shelburne is a great place! I'm glad you stopped to visit! Isn't it quite a collection? Steamboat and all.
