On July 4, 2008 I had the opportunity to drive back from North Carolina to my home in California . Instead of driving straight back like I did on the way to NC, I planned a long road trip to see as much of the US as possible. It came out to 31 days, 10,000 miles, and the experience of a lifetime. My main destinations were theme parks, but I made other stops as well. You never know what you will find along the road

Montpelier Vermont

I ended the day driving to Montpelier Vermont. One thing you'll see along these two lane highways are piles of logs outside each of the houses. I'm sure this is one of those places that's immune to global warming in the winter, but after driving through the area in the summer, you can understand why these people stay. This is one of the most scenic areas in the country. There is a reason the state name translates as 'green mountains'. The capitol city is tucked into these mountains. I ate at an Italian restaurant, saw a skunk in the parking lot, and stayed at a hotel nearby.
