On July 4, 2008 I had the opportunity to drive back from North Carolina to my home in California . Instead of driving straight back like I did on the way to NC, I planned a long road trip to see as much of the US as possible. It came out to 31 days, 10,000 miles, and the experience of a lifetime. My main destinations were theme parks, but I made other stops as well. You never know what you will find along the road

Lake Shasta

It was getting dark and I could only see a little at the time, but Lake Shasta was practically empty, due to drought, or to put out the fires, or a little of both. It looked like somebody had drained an artificial lake. It definitely needs some natural TLC. I continued my drive south until late at night, then we pulled over at a rest stop. The kittten felt right at home living in a car.
