On July 4, 2008 I had the opportunity to drive back from North Carolina to my home in California . Instead of driving straight back like I did on the way to NC, I planned a long road trip to see as much of the US as possible. It came out to 31 days, 10,000 miles, and the experience of a lifetime. My main destinations were theme parks, but I made other stops as well. You never know what you will find along the road

Not too far from Mt Rushmore is Crazy Horse. After fifty years he still is far from complete. The children of the man who started construction are completing it. According to the film they aren't acccepting US grants and only accept donations. Considering how long it's taking, you'd think they'd accept the grants. So far only the face is done, the top of his arm, and they have now drawn the horse head on the rock. I had this odd deja vu feeling when I saw it. The museum is pretty far from Crazy Horse, but you can pay extra to take a bus to the base. According to the model they have big ambitions for an education center, but that's a long time away. They also have rocks there for a donation, so I put in a dollar and took one of the rocks that got blasted off. Incidentally, his face is as big as all four faces at Mt Rushmore.
