Holland vs Guus Hiddink
At about 12 o'clock, we reached the parking field in a place outside Basel. From there it was about 20 minutes by tram to Basel central station.
Basel was just as orange as Bern in the weekend before. More than 100.000 people from Holland travelled to Basel to be part of the Dutch invasion. For this occasion, the city organised that extra squares were available to provide enough space for all the football fans.
A great scene from the riverside, as there were lotd of fans on the bridge, and 2 stands were buit to watch the football. People were jumping off the bridge to get a cooling down, as the weather was awesome! Also on the squares the Basel fire department made sure people could get wet to cool down.
In the meanwhile we heard that the Swiss border was closed, because too many people were trying to get in. Good thing that we left early!
It was a long day in Basel before the match began, but we enjoyed. Atmosphere was superb, one big party!
Too bad the match didn't turn out to be a party, as we didn't have any moment in the game that felt like winning was an option (although the late equaliser gave hope, and excited all the fans on the square (30.000 people together!)
So the EURO 2008 was over for Holland and the Dutch fans, all that was in front of us was the drive home.
Again, had a nice day in Switzerland, although it was a long drive, but it was absolutely worth it!
