Portland Maine
October 7, 2008
The sun was out early in Portland, but we got up around 9am and had some breakfast before we went out exploring. The ship docked next to the old port area. We took a city bus that did a loop around the town, and then let us off at a 1860s victorian mansion. The mansion was in fantastic shape, as it had been maintained by the family that lived there since taking over from the original owners in 1928.
We walked back thru town and took in the ambience of Portland. Lin tried to find a bead store that she had located on the internet, but it had previously closed and was not to be found. Tom went to an internet cafe but their connection was faulty and kept dropping out. After an hour of fighting with it we returned to the ship and awaited the 4pm sail away.
Tonight the entertainment is a highly credentialed pianist that will play classical music. Tomorrow is a day at sea.
