Gorilla Safari to Bwindi, How To Have a Successful Gorilla Trek To Uganda.
The first thing i did was to Google up for gorilla safaris and i got many options and preferences. My biggest worry was the price since i consider myself a budget traveler. In order to visit the gorillas, you must choose between Bwindi in Uganda and Parc De Volcans in Rwanda. I choose Uganda because its so adventurous much as i was told that its easier to see these giant apes in Rwanda than Uganda.
A gorilla permit costs USD 500 per person per trek. Its very important to book your gorilla permit in advance, at least 3 months before your actual tracking date. This is what i say in the gorilla section for a credible travel guide to Uganda. About Uganda Safaris
Choosing a tour operator to handle my safari was as hard as the trek itself! Most of the safari companies are established and have knowledgeable guides and reliable vehicles. Susanette of Adventure Uganda Safari helped he decide on their company due to the fast and detailed response i received.
Tips for A Successful Gorilla Safari.
Book your gorilla permit at least 3 months to your actual trekking date.
Make sure you arrange your bookings with a recognised tour operator. At least members of AUTO.
Take time to be physically fit before your trek. Searching for the gorillas can take a full day.
A maximum number of 8 visitors may visit a group(family) of habituated gorillas in a day. This minimizes behavioral disturbances to the gorillas and the risk of their exposure to human-borne diseases.
Always wash your hands before you head out to the gorillas.
Do not leave rubbish in the park. Whatever you bring into the forest should be carried back with you.
You will be taken to where the guides left the gorillas the day before. From there you will follow the gorillas trial to find them. Look out for the gorillas nesting sites along the way.
When you approach the gorillas, the guides will inform you when to get your cameras ready.
Please always keep your voices low. You will also be able to observe the great bird life and other wildlife in the forest.
When You Are With The Gorillas....
Keep a minimum of 7 meters (21feet) from the gorillas. This is to protect gorillas from human disease transmission.
You must stay in a light group when you are near the gorillas.
Keep your voices low at all times. However, it is okay to ask the guide questions.
Do not eat or drink while you are near the gorillas to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
Sometimes the gorillas charge. Follow the guideās example crouch down slowly, do not look at the gorillas in the eyes, and wait for the animals to pass. Do not attempt to run away. Running away will increase the risk of attack.
Flash photography is not permitted, when taking pictures, move slowly and carefully.
Do not touch the gorillas. They are wild animals.
The maximum time visitors are allowed to spend with the gorillas is one hour to limit their disturbances. If the gorillas become agitated or nervous, the guide will end the visit early.
After the visit, keep your voices down until you are 200 meters away from the gorillas.
Accommodation
All budgets are catered for. I made an effort to tour the places, and i was impressed with the Gorilla Resort and Buhoma Homestead.
I encourage you all to visit the Mountain gorillas before they become extinct. Remember there are about 700 mountain gorillas left in the whole world.
