Navajo land :o)
Yay, we made it.. we're here... at Monument Valley - Adrian's back yard. One of the most amazing places on earth, packed with history of the native Americans.. :o)
The road to Monument Valley is more or less a long straight line thru wide, open spaces. Totally awesome and so very different from anything I've ever seen or experienced before. I really loved the drive to MV, and I could so imagine what it would have been like to ride horses in this landscape. Think I even told Adrian that... Of course it was pretty cold outside, but still I wouldn't have minded at all to ditch the car and go horseback riding for a while instead. Maybe some other time when we have more time and it's warmer weather. LOL...
As we got closer to MV, we crossed the state border to Utah.
That mean I have been to one more state, even if it was only for a short while... hehe
Anyway, we took off from the highway and made our way to the Monument Valley entrance. We had to stop and pay to get in, but if Adrian had been alone (or I too had been Navajo) he (or we) would have gotten in for free... not that it was that expencive. Think it was 4 $ or something.
We stopped at the parking lot and as we get out of the car we can here some guys shouting at us from this booth. I couldn't here what they said, and we walked over to find out what they wanted. Turned out they were running these tours and wanted us to use their services. Neither of us were that interested in paying like 20 or 30$ each to go on a ride thru the MV National Park. So we said we'd think about it and went over to the visitors center/souvenier shop. The visitor center were being remodeled, so it was closed... but the souvenier shop was open, so we spent some time in there looking at a lot of cool stuff (and some not so cool stuff...lol) and got some souveniers. Adrian asked them if it was possible to take your own car and drive thru the area, and they confirmed that that was possible. So of course we did that instead of paying to be taken around.
We walked back to the car and started on our MV tour. First stop was right after we'd started up from the parking lot. They had build a couple Hogans that we took some pictures of before we really ventured off.
to be continued....
