Isn't it amazing to think that I left Singapore on August 30th at 6am local time, arrived in Los Angeles at 11am local time on the same day, and was at Orange County, CA by 3pm that same day? Seemed like I didn't travel 6,000 miles across the globe. :)
It was my first time to be in Dana Point, a city in Orange county, popular for its nice coastline and harbor. It is a nice weekend getaway place to relax. It was named after Richard Henry Dana Jr. (1815-1882), a Harvard-trained lawyer, seaman, and author of the classic sea journal, Two Years Before the Mast (1840). Dana Point was originally called Bahia de San Juan Capistrano (Capistrano Bay). In his sea journal, Richard Dana Jr. described Capistrano Bay as "the most romantic spot on the California coast." I do not know his specific reason(s) for describing Dana point as so, but from the beautiful sunset I've witnessed there, I would say, who wouldn't find it romantic?
You can read more about Richard Henry Dana Jr. and the history of Dana point here: http://www.danapoint.org/index.aspx?page=51.
Just a note: Dana Point being in Orange county, which is known for being posh and home of the Southern CA rich, expect that the food and accomodation here would be expensive. ;-)
