My plane. Dont know what kind..
The day just continues from Lima to Los Angeles. I walked to the customs and first paid my fee. No problems and I arrived in time at my gate. It is now sept. 25th and I am flying to the USA. Flight time was almost 8 hours with very little sleep. In LA I had to change my watch to the LA- time. I have won two hours. Time difference with the Netherlands is now 9 hours.
At customs again there were a lot of people waiting, but when I arrived there they opened more gates and I was the first at a new gate, so I give them my fingerprints and a photo and walked on. Whoow, within 2 minutes at the belt for my luggage.
And mine is already there. Should this be a bad sign. In 5 minutes I know. They picked me out of the line and I had to go to exit B. A man with white gloves was waiting for me. J He just asked if I had a connecting flight. Yes I said, but it didn’t help. He searched everything and found some coca-leaves from Peru. But I started talking about how I got them, from TravBuddies. He never heard of it so I told him. More were listening what I am telling them about this site, but he kept on searching my luggage. After 20 minutes it was oké and a nice lady asked me what my connected flight is, and she directed me to building 7 where United is. That’s a long walk…
Monument for the USS Midway
There were people waiting in line and nobody was at the auto-check in. I had time, so I waited. I could not get to the front for printing my boarding pass. Then the lady asked people to step forward for auto-check-in.
That’s my call J. 3 minutes later I dropped my luggage for the label at the counter and went to gate 86B. LA airport is big. Another 15 minutes walk. I waited there and wrote my diary again. From this moment I didn’t write anything done, so the rest of my trip is just memories…. The plain was very small, I think only 25 people or so can fly with this plain. The steward was telling the safety procedures with so much fun, that we start laughing with him. The flight was about an hour, and at the gate I found my friend and his wife who are picking me up.
The Statendam from the Holland-America line
After telling them that I could use some food, we drove to the harbor and had a healthy dish in restaurant Harbor house, I think. After eating we walked along the harbor. The San Diego waterfront is a pleasant place to stroll.
There are a few interesting historical ships that have been transformed into museums. Sailboats in the San Diego maritime museum include the Star of India, an iron-hulled square rigger with 100 feet tall masts that still sails and the HMS Surprise, a replica of a Royal 18th century frigate made famous by the movie "Master and Commander". The most recent arrival is the giant aircraft carrier USS Midway,( 7 June 2004) which when lauched in 1945 was the largest ship in the world, and didn't retire until after serving in the first Gulf War. 2 cruise ships were also there at the moment. The Carnaval Elation and the Statendam from the Holland-America line. Buy the way, if someone wants to make a cruise, just ask me and the wife of my friend can organize that. It was her job booking cruise ships, but she is still busy with it. J Something new: A meet-up on a cruiseship ! I like it already !!
At 4pm they brought me to there house, at 5 Howard and I went to a swimming pool very close to there house. In the evening it was just talking and early to bed. This was my first day in San Diego.
