Flying over the Andes

But my vacation continues. After breakfast with René I checked out and I found a cab for $/.30 to the airport. That’s a good price I think! At the airport I ask what the procedure is for a domestic flight. Easy, print your own boarding pass and drop your luggage at the LAN counters. So within 15 minutes I was ready and much to early for my flight. But with a cup of coffee and a little bit shopping without buying, I killed the time. The flight PAN 111 was on time and I landed 2pm in Cuzco. The last 10 minutes of the flight are very beautiful. You fly not so high above the mountains. I had a window seat so a great view over the Andes Mountains.

After picking up my luggage, I found the hotel-taxi in front of the airport terminal. It was only a 15 min. drive to my hotel. They were very friendly at the desk and after showing me my room, they offer me a cup of tea with coca leaves.

It should be a medication against altitude sickness. I didn’t feel sick or disoriented but I did drink the tea. I just wanted to know how it tasted. I walked into town and started at the Plaza de Armas. I had a map and just walked around the square. I had time till 6pm. At 17:45 I was back in my hotel to wait for a guide to tell me all about my tour to Machu Picchu. He arrived at 6 pm at started talking about tomorrow. Then I stopped him at asked him: please continue in English. But he couldn’t. With help with the hotel and later on with Yadi ( I called her for translations J) I did understand what to do.

Now I was getting hungry and some advised me to go to an Italian restaurant, Incanto. It was a little bit expensive but the food was good. After my diner and 2 beers I went back to my hotel and found the computer for free use of the internet. I went to bed early while my next appointment was the next morning at
6:20. Then the hotel offered me a heater for the night.
J . Hey, I am dutch, I am used to 5 degrees C.
