This blog is the continuation on my almost endless blog "Meeting travbuddies". Same as the 1st one, it's about the people I met in real life through this page, but during my 2nd year as a TB, hehe. I hope this year would be as much fun as the last one, or maybe funner - if that's possible, hehe. Hopefully I can meet lot of people and help them as much as possible. :) Enjoy the blog :)

I found Pisco in Austin thanks to Kenneth :)

toasting with Pisco in Austin, how cool!!!
Well, you might say this entry should belong to my Travel blog, but since it was about meeting a TB - Kenneth - who also wanted to be part of this blog since a long time ago... plus I love this Meeting Travbuddies blog ;)

It was around 4:30pm when Kenneth and I arrived to the Shady Grove - a cool and laid back restaurant/bar. 2 of his friends were already there enjoying a drink. After being introduced as "Yadi from Peru" I got a drink. Kenneth ordered for us both the signature drink: "Shady Thang". Party was getting started early, hehe. Well somewhere in the world it was already time to drink :)

The drink looked like a frozen Margarita and I love that drink, yummy! I tasted it and was very good and refreshing. At this time Kenneth told me the drink had besides other liquors: Pisco!!! OMG! I couldn't believe it, the signature drink of this place had pisco in it! Cool! The 4 of us were chilling out when 5 other friends arrived, great - the more the merrier.
Yes, an exotic Pisco brandy = Peruvian Pisco!!!
We asked for a table, but we could get one just if we were a bigger group, mmm. Well, but a couple of friends would arrive soon, plus... the waitress was nice and found us a table, yay! Ok, it was time for a refill of that delicious drink!

The table got full and we could move to the restaurant area, but it was cozy here, plus we weren't hungry yet. Nobody had any idea about what to do later, so Kenneth asked for an Austin Paper to check what we could do later... well, not many interesting things but there were some hilarious ads, haha. Everyone was interested in know how Kenneth met a Peruvian girl and most important how she ended being in Austin during holidays, haha.

It was around 6pm when we went to the dining area. It was also located outside, like in a patio, how nice! Specially because the day was a bit warm.
the proof! The Pisco Bottle!!!
Most of us were enjoying our drinks and weren't hungry yet, so we'd wait a while before getting some food. The onloy one who really wanted to eat ASAP was the youngest guy from the table. He was 2 years old, a cutie!!! Kenneth's friend's son... So sorry I forgot his name... The "Shady Thangs" kept on coming, yay! Kenneth wanted to ask the waiter which kind of Pisco they used for the drinks. The waiter went to the bar and told us that it was Peruvian Pisco, yay!!! The Peruvian was proud and went to the bar to take a pic of the pisco bottle, hehe. When the waiter looked at me funny, Kenneth told him: "Well, she's Peruvian ;)"

Well, now we need food to suck the alcohol, haha. Kenneth got some nachos and I was looking for a salad... but went for some Veggie Kebabs.
Another pic!!!
At the end we ended sharing our dishes. The food was very good but what I liked the most here - besides the drinks - was the atmosphere, so relaxed and laid back. Also the company was great. I started to play with the little boy and I wanted to get a pic with him, suddenly he turned into a model and wanted to get more and more pics, haha.

I really enjoyed the dinner and Kenneth's friends, so did their friends, who decided to have a house party in a couple of hours. My plans for that night were going out with Mihn and the boys again. But I'd like to try something new... We drove back to Mihn's. I commented him my plan and he was cool with it, as long as I was cool with it. Perfect! We had a plan. I got ready as soon as possible and even had time to pack my stuff, since the next morning I'd leave in the morning.
Black Eyed Peas for good luck ;)
..

We drove to Kenneth's friends and shared a fun time there. They had some liquors from the NYE party they had and also some fireworks, hehe. We were just chilling out at the yard, until it became too cool. So we moved inside. The guys were playing poker while I was talking with 2 sisters, whose grandpa was working in Peru for a while, haha, what a small world!!! We even had some "Black Eye Peas". Was I hungry? No, but Kenneth told me this was for good luck. Well, you are supposed to have them on Jan 1st, but since I didn't know about it... maybe it would still work for my good luck, haha.

We had a blast, but it was time to leave. Hopefully I'd meet this nice gang in the future. We drove back and arrived before Minh. So we had to wait for them for a while.
guys playing poker...
Then we saw a cab, and there they were. First thing Brian asked me was: "Have you been drinking?" haha, Yes, I have been drinking but by this time the alcohol was out of my system. Not even 30sec after Minh opened the front  door, Brian opened the fridge and looked for his precious salsa, haha. As a little boy, he didn't want to share it, haha.

Well, it was time to say good bye to Kenneth and hopefully we'd meet in the near future. He wants to visit Peru and he has a friend in Lima :) The rest of us stayed up for a while and finally went to bed around 4am. Time to leave Austin was getting closer, but I'd be back!

Fun outdoor and pisco drink in Austin - Shady Grove
While I was in Austin, Kenneth suggested me to join his friends to one of the places they like the most and usually visit to relax, have a couple of drinks, just hang out. He mentioned the name: "Shady Grove" but it wasn't until I was back in Lima, that I was realized another TB has recommended me to visit it when I was in Austin.

We went there for a couple of drinks and diner. Shady Grove reflects Austin's appreciation of the outdoors and entertainment. It was so great to sit under a pecan tree on the patio, while we enjoyed our drinks. This place is packed during the whole year all the time. It's one of the favorites in Austin and now I know why. I've been told sometimes they have live music here - cool!

If you want to eat here, the food is really good, homemade style fun food. They are specialized in Texmex. Of course they would serve you a lot of chips and salsa and keep your glasses full of water all the time. The dining area is also outdoor. It has a laid back, hippie style, so adorable! I love their decoration. I was in the mood of veggies and found the Veggie Kebabs, which were delicious! Kenneth got the "Shady Grove Nachos", which were under appetizers, but were more than enough for one.

Regarding drinks you can't leave the place without trying the signature drink: "Shady Thang" which amazed me, not only because of the fresh taste - almost like a frozen Margarita - but also because it has pisco! and pisco is a Peruvian liquor, haha.

The staff is friendly and although they can be busy, they will try to do their best. Usually the place is packed, so if you can do a reservation, it'd be a good idea. But waiting under a tree, just zipping your drink and chatting with friends doesn't sound bad at all to me :)
