some dancers, this is a dance from Puno
Finally I got to bed around 4am, but I had already agreed with John that I'd show him around downtown Lima on Sunday morning... I went to his hostal at 10:30am and the tour started... Usually I don't drive to downtown, in fact I don't like to do it at all, since there's always a lot of traffic and noise, but I decided to do it this time, because it was Sunday!!! So, no traffic, hehehe. We would have started the "tour" earlier, but it took me long to find a good parking lot. There were some not so trustful ones... John was taking some pics while we were driving around, so that wasn't bad at all :P Our tour started at San Martin Square and then we walked to the Main Square. It was really sunny and quite hot, but streets weren't crowded. Suddenly we listened to some music, there were some dancers, cool!
I was telling John about Lima's history, being a good tour guide, hehehe.
Government Palace - you can see the band ready to play
I was showing him our old buildings and we were about going to a park behind the Government Palace when I noticed the time. We were just on time to watch the "Guard Change" in Government Palace. Although it takes place daily at noon, I haven't ever watched it YET. This is one of the things you take for granted since you live in the city. It was a nice experience. It was hot, but even though there was a good number of people there!
Then we went to the Cathedral. Usually they charge you for the entrance, but it was Sunday and there was a service, so we could go inside for free, yay! As a Catholic country there are many beautiful old churches here, but the problem is that they are not open the whole day during the week, but it was completely different on Sunday, yay! I chose the perfect day ;)
After visiting San Francisco convent and catacombs, we started to walk back to the main square and then to the car.
having lunch with John
It was already 2 something and I was getting hungry, lol. So it would be a good idea having lunch in downtown. John has already tried the fish & seafood, so this time he'd try the chicken. And of course with Inca Kola. He really liked our national soda, how cool! Meal was tasty and then we drove back to Miraflores. So sorry, but I was feeling a bit tired and couldn't walk longer... I left John at his hostal and decided to relax for the rest of the day...
