Halloween Party & Jarana Criolla, fun, fun, fun :)
October 31, 2008
Most of the world celebrate just Halloween the 31st. But Peruvians have to be different, so we celebrate 2 things at same time, haha: Halloween and also the "Dia de la cancion Criolla" (Folkloric Song day...), more reasons to party, great! That day traffic is even crazier, people attend to different parties. All the city wants to have fun and party and TB's are not the exception. Hey! We are always in the mood for party :)
Mal & I booked a table in a disco and agreed to meet at 9:30pm, but since we both were free earlier, we decided to meet at 8pm. I almost forgot my custome at home. When I arrived he was having some anticuchos for dinner. Then we went to his house (aka hostel) and Cinthia was already there waiting for him. While he was getting ready, I got something to eat too. We were going to drink, so better not have an empty stomach. That disco had an oper bar, so better be ready. Actually we didn't have any alcohol during the whole week, so our livers were ready, hehe.
We went to the disco and there was a line. Fortunately we had a table waiting for us. When we arrived there, Ana Maria (Cinthia's friend) was already there. First thing we did inside, was getting our drinks, haha. The place was still empty but it got packed very quickly, ufff! There was live music and our table was next to the musicians, how cool! I decided to have a daiquiri and kept on drinking just rum. The daiquiris were very tasty, actually you could barely feel the alcohol, well until next morning, haha.
We started to dance and enjoy the night, haha. It was getting harder to get our drinks. There weren't enough waiters and glasses, haha. So, I decided to go by myself, lol. We were just having fun and Mal gave me his phone. It was Nelly. I could barely listen to her: "Hello!" I was about saying to Mal that I lost her, when somebody hugged me. It was Nelly! haha, she made it! She told me she wasn't sure if she'd be able to join us, but she succeeded. She didn't come alone, some friends joined her. Yay! The more, the merrier :)
But Nelly wasn't the only one who joined us. Also Raul showed up! He and his girlfriend joined us too, how cool! The gang was getting bigger and funner. We all were dancing and suddenly a guy came and asked me if he could interview my friend in disguise, hehe. Mal had a mask, everyone could notice, haha. He was the sensation of the place and these people from a website wanted to interview him. Sure, they could interview Mal, but they had to do it in English. The reporter didn't speak English very well, so at the end I was interviewed, haha. He wanted to know where my friend was from and what he was doing in Lima. I just said: "He's enjoying Lima. Isn't our city great?" The guy gave us his card to check the interview. But I lost it. Hopefully Mal kept his...
It was almost 1am when the big singer came. Her name is Bartola and she's a famous singer here. She sings "Criolla" music. I love this music. It has a lot of rythm and interesting lyrics. Most of them talk about missing loves and break ups, but not in a sad way at all. They try to make them look fun, well an experience, haha. Who has never had an experience like this? So, it's so easy to sing them. We all were singing each song, haha. Actually the whole crowd was singing and clapping.
She left, but the music kept on going. We were dancing, singing, just having tons of fun, haha. It was almost 3am when I decided to leave. I was a bit tired. I wanted to take a nap before going out, but I couldn't do it. I have been awake since 6am and batteries were going down... Malvin joined me to take a cab and then he left too. The rest of the gang kept on party. Until now I haven't heard anything about them...
so I guess they had much more fun, haha

Party, party at an Old House - Casa Vieja
Casa Vieja (translated Old House) is a disco / bar located in Miraflores. I used to go there with some ex coworkers a couple of years ago and last Halloween I went there back but with some TB's friends this time. There were a lot of parties going on in Lima for Halloween, but we decided to attend to this one because it's more about locals. They celebrate not only Halloween, but also had Peruvian live music.
First the atmosphere: it was more about locals. It has a stage, a dance floor in the middle and tables surrounding it. The crowd wasn't too young. The music was a good combination of latin, western even Peruvian music. They have a band and a singer (usually a famous one) joins them for a while. It's the perfect place to dance and also to sing.
They offer the "all you can drink". You pay your cover and will have an open bar until 3am. This bar include: pisco sour, daiquiris, pina colada, vodka, beer, juices and soda. At the beginning is so easy to go to the bar and get your drink, but after a while the place gets packed and it's difficult to reach it, haha. So be patient!
If there's a big party, I recommend to make a reservation, otherwise you can go without any but try to arrive early, so you can get a table where you can place your drinks while you are dancing.
Be sure to wear comfy shoes, since you are gonna dance a lot!
