Lima Travel Blog › entry 20 of 93 › view all entries

This blog is the continuation on my almost endless blog "Meeting travbuddies". Same as the 1st one, it's about the people I met in real life through this page, but during my 2nd year as a TB, hehe. I hope this year would be as much fun as the last one, or maybe funner - if that's possible, hehe. Hopefully I can meet lot of people and help them as much as possible. :) Enjoy the blog :)

Getting the tickets for Friday party, yay!

I didn't notice it until Mal told me: "You are all blue today!"
Mal and I were thinking about what to do on Friday. In Peru we don't only celebrate Halloween, but also the "Dia de la cancion criolla" (translation might be Folkloric Song Day). There are a lot of parties going on, so you have to book one in advance in order to be able to find space. We were checking different possibilities during the week and finally we found an interesting one.

Today we met in Miraflores in order to go to the place, check it and book a table. Mal is in charge of contacting the gang and I was in charge of finding the place. We met at 5:30pm and went there. We chose a table and made the reservation under Mal's name. The reservation is ready, just waiting for Friday party, yay!

In my way I drove in front of a nice Middle Eastern Restaurant. After making the reservation we went to this place, checked the menu and the pictures. Everything looked very good, hehe. But it was still early for dinner, so we decided to go for a cup of coffee and chat first. We were just chilling out and talking about our future plans and travels. Then we moved to the Middle Eastern place.

The food was very good and also the atmosphere. Well, I'll write a review of this. Anyway, we were just hanging out and relaxing. I told Mal I won't drink alcohol that night. I promised myself not to drink, well until Friday, haha. Mal thought it was idea to take good care of our livers, haha. Everything was getting ready for Friday. Just have to get the confirmations from the rest of the gang. Yay! Can hardly wait for Friday :)

Just to add, Casa Vieja allows us to bring our own bottle, which is always a good thing for wine-lovers. We´ll see how it goes, but in the mean time, we´re happy with all-you-can-drink on Friday!

Hmm....I wonder what I will dress up as? :p

Delicious Middle Eastern Food - Tierra Santa Cafe Restaurant
I discovered this place just by chance, while I was driving in my way to meet Malvin. We both love this kind of food, so we decided to go there for dinner.

This place is just 4 months all, that's why I haven't heard about it, haha. It's very well located. The restaurant is in the 1st floor. It's small and popular, so it gets packed easily. The second floor is a bar, white and modern. Looks nice, I have to go back, hehe.

The food is very good and they have a good variety. I find this place better than the one I use to visit. All the dishes looked delicious. We had Falafel Shawerma, Arabian Salad (really fresh) and stuffed Zucchini, Eggplant & Yellow Pepper. All of them were very tasty! Definitely I want to come back to try the Arabian Platter. And I did it! So good... They have a wide selection of dishes, desserts and Arab coffee.

Recently they started to offer fruit salads and juices. Actually is another franchise that is located in the same restaurant. OMG! It's delicious. Many fruits, not just the regular ones.

They also have hookahs and a good variety of flavored tobacco. You can either smoke it downstairs or do it upstairs, where the bar is located. We tried the apple and strawberry. Personally I prefer the apple one. It was my 1st time smoking and found it softer :)

Regarding the bar upstairs, they offer a show with Arabian Dances on Saturday and great drinks, good selection of pisco cocktails. The environment there looks cool! Also they have Happy Hours, haha, and a karaoke! We came back on a Saturday. We were expecting a girl dancing, but it was a guy! He dances very well, just remember him dancing with a glass on his head, ufff. Since the place is small, it's a familiar environment, so the dancer would ask some of the people there to join him dancing. He didn't only dances, but also sings. I like the white furniture with the blue light. It looks cool and a bit mystic when you are smoking your hookah ;)
Just one thing to remember. The bartender doesn't have much expertise / time, so they offer you just long drinks and avoid serving cocktails :(

The staff was nice. One of the waiters seems to be in a hurry all the time, but other was really helpful and kind. My second time there, he kept on coming the whole time asking us how everything was and if we needed anything else. He gave us all the info we asked about the Arabian nights.

They have another location in Surco - close to my house, mmm, how convenient: Av. Primavera 1427 CC Monterrico (435-8470)

And both offer delivery, hehehe

Well, right now this place is part of my MUST list. I have to go back there soon in order to taste other dishes, hehe.

Delicious and fresh Bakery - Vlady
This bakery is some years old. The owner and his wife used to have another bakery, but they got divorced and she kept the old one, so he decided to open a new one.

Right now he has 3 locals, but the big one is in Miraflores, near where my mom used to work. Actually, we used to buy birthday cakes there, haha. But stopped going there for a while. Just some months ago, I reassumed going there. Mom and me have lunch together every Friday and this is one of the point we usually go.

This is more than a bakery. The basement is a big dining area. Their menu is wide. They have salty food, like empanadas, pastries, sandwiches, soups, salads, pasta. Also a very fresh and tasty salad bar. Of course the deserts are present. They are very very good, all the cakes taste like home made. They have souffles, cookies, alfajores, etc. Also they have ice creams. The portions are large. Their fruit salads are huge too. To drink they have juices - very tasty, with different Peruvian fruits.

This time it was a bit chilly and Mal got a "sancochado" a typical soup and he loved it!

Well, if you are in the area and want a snack - this is a good option. Also for lunch is a good one, but the place got packed around 1pm, so come earlier or after 2pm ;)
