Big lunch at home: family, friends, TB's everybody is welcome ;)
October 26, 2008
My grandfather had birthday. It was his 87 birthday, so it was a really big thing. I usually don't write about family here, but since a TB joined us, I'd write about it. The sons and daughter decided to organize a big lunch at my house. Who's gonna cook? Nobody, better hiring a catering service, Peruvian food or course! And also get extra chairs and tables for all the guests. Some days ago I asked Mal if he has plans for Sunday and he didn't and knowing he would be missing a family reunion, I decided to invite him and well, he couldn't refuse, hehe.
The guests started to arrive at 1pm. I had to go and buy a couple of stuff for the party and arrived after Mal, haha. I found him at the HQ's chatting with my dad. My dad doesn't speak English, but they could have a great conversation, haha. Mal wanted to meet the Birthday boy, haha. I introduced him to most of the family. The only one who has met him before was mom. She met him during the Meet Up. Everyone was wondering how I met someone from Singapore, haha. But everybody was so focused on the party that I didn't have to give further explanations, haha.
Before starting to eat, my grandfather wanted to give a speech he prepared a couple of days ago. Gunther was grounded at the back. Mom didn't want him to be barking and bothering the people. Noooo, my baby!!!! He stayed grounded but not for long, also all my little cousins went to the back and were playing with him. He was really spoiled, hehe. Malvin went to the back to meet the famous Gunther too, haha. We took some pics and went to the yard. They have sat tables on the yard, so there would be space for everybody. We found place with my cousins.
The food was a Peruvian Buffet. So many tasty dishes. Mal exclaimed: "Wow! It's like a restaurant!" Haha, it was self service, so you could get whatever you want. Mal felt very comfortable with my cousins. They are very friendly and wanted to know about Singapore and also Mal wanted to know more about Peru. They were amazed about the fact he decided to stay in Lima for so long, haha. Mal even taught them how to toast in Singapore, haha. So fun!
Around 3pm, they started to serve the dessert. In order to make the whole experience really Peruvian, they served Picarones. A traditional dessert. They are like fried donoughts, haha. Mal tasted them, I was too full to keep on eating anything, plus I saw the birthday cake and wanted to save space for it, haha.
We moved into the house and were checking the HQ, haha. Then it was time to sing: Happy Birhtday. My gradfather was really happy and appreciated so many people joined him. It was a great day! Mal had to leave around 7pm. Family staid longer. The last people left almost at 11pm, haha.
I hope Mal enjoyed my grandfather's Bday party. I wanted him to experience a Peruvian Family party. Specially since he has been away from home for so long, ufff. Whole family liked him. Mal you will always be welcome here!
