the preparty debate spread

i recently had a very very packed night in Pasadena - a city I rarely ever go to ... not for any particular reason other than that it feels really far away, the freeway there is super narrow and curvy and it's really hot... but regardless my friend had invited a bunch of us to her house (super adorable) to watch the first presidential debate (go obama!) and then for an evening in pasadena (at Vertical Wine Bar and dancing at Menage).

i arrived at L's house early and helped her set up ... well, really, all i did was chill some wine and bring the music.  she had set up a lovely spread of snacks, including the cutest cupackes from dots.  i had to control myself because i wanted to eat at vertical and didn't want to ruin my appetite.

Aren't these adorable???
Soon some of our co-workers arrived and then sybil!  we watched the debates and danced - strange mix, i know.  i was a bit surprised obama didn't do better, but i won't go into politics in my blog...  or at least i'll try not to...  after tiring of hearing mccain whine about how he is a maverick and not miss congeniality (yes - i know you are not sandra bullock) multiple times, we decided it was time to head out to Vertical - a wine bar that has gotten fab reviews over the last couple of years.

We arrived and was met with a lovely, if dimly lit space.  The menu displayed multiple lovely flights of wine and wonderful food.  We shared a medley of appetizers - the grilled cheese (good, but i think i expected too much based on the rave reviews; it's a soft cheese on dense, thick raisiny bread, which i felt competed with the cheese.

After a lovely time at Vertical, we decided to walk over to Menage to dance.  The music was quite good - the crowd a bit iffy, but i don't think that really mattered to us.  My friend "A" even took a spin on the pole!  After a wonderful evening for great company, food, wine and dancing, I returned home - snug in my super fab bed!
