Day 6 Shanghai
June 16, 2004
I didn't do much sightseeing today because I actually went to school with my cousin for one day - it's a crazy idea but I actually get to experience a regular school day with Shanghai residents.
At night we went to Xintiandi,a pedestrian entertainment district for foreign visitors, local artists and clubbers. It include the famous Shikumen, a renovated "ruin" remained through the great war. Xintiandi is full of bars, jazz clubs, and designer boutiques. The designer boutiques are excellent for window shopping, but even in Canadian dollars, it's hella expensive. The stores forms a "U" shape and there is a plaza in the center for stands. One of the stands sells Chairman Mao stuff (lol). Chairman Mao alarm clock might be an awesome souvenir to bring home?

Just enjoy the atmosphere!
Good for dinner or night bars after wandering around the historical walls and alleyways. Some bars have live music. Shopping is also available, you're most likely to run into locals, business people and travellers.
