Day out with Go & co
It turned out that my 90 Baht/night room wasn't that comfortable (how unexpected...). The bed is hard as a rock and the walls are just to thin to block any sound. Due to that, and the fact that my room is next to the shared bathroom, I had a lousy night. I was woken at 06:00 by noises coming from the kitchen and decided to switch to another guesthouse.
I had already informed about the availability of a room at the Smile Guesthouse so I packed my stuff, checked out and went there. My new room is a bit more expensive, but has a private bathroom, a big comfy bed and the guesthouse has a small pool. After checking in I fell on the bed an slept until I had to get ready to meet Go and his friends for lunch.
I met Sude, Rex and his girlfriend in front of the Starbucks and we waited for Go who was running late.
When he arrived we got into his car and drove to the artistic part of Chiang Mai to have lunch. Sude had already recommended I'd try a local dish called Kaew Saew (phonetically, I have no idea how it's spelled). Basically it's noodles in yellow curry. I tried both the chicken and the beef version and it tastes great! The table was full of side dishes as well like fried mini shrimps and fried sweet potatoes. After lunch we went to the market and walked around for a bit. It turns out that it is common in Thailand to take home some food as some kind of souvenir to give to the people at home. So, some sweets, sausages and stuff I cannot identify were bought. Next stop was an amazingly good homebaked pie and cake bakery called "Love at first bite".
We ordered five different cakes and drinks and tasted them all. They were amazing (except for the Peppermint Cheese Cake, that tasted too much like Sportlife chewing gum for my taste). One that really stood out was the White Chocolate Cheese Cake and an interesting one was the Green Tea Cheese Cake.
We dropped off Rex and his girlfriend and then brought Sude to the airport, so she could catch her flight. Go and I went to the Chiang Mai zoo next. The acquarium in the zoo is really good, but the rest of the zoo was not really impressive. At the end of the afternoon Go dropped me off at the center of Chiang Mai.
I am really thankful to Go and Sude for inviting me to join them and learning so much about the Thai "way of life", teaching me some more Thai words (I can now say "no" to an annoying Tuc Tuc driver in Thai) and for their hospitality and kindness.
I went to get something to eat and went to the old gate where there was a stage with children performing dances, because of the Flower Festival that is held this weekend. The dances were a bit corny, but it was fun to watch. I now go back to the guesthouse and sleep really well, because tomorrow I definitely want to do my bike trip to the top of Doi Suthep.
