Tokyo - The most Interesting City on Earth

Tokyo Japan is probably my favorite city outside of the United States.  There are so many interesting people, places, and customs that I don't even know where to start.  Best of all, its an extremely safe city to visit, even by yourself, if you have the courage.  My very first time outside of the USA was a random, spontaneous flight by myself to Tokyo.  To say that I was terrified would be an understatement.  I had never left my country before, but I was determined not to be a typical American who thinks the world revolves around the USA.  I spent the entire first day in my hotel room, studying the Tokyo Subway Map.  I've read that there is no more complex subway system in the world than the Tokyo subway, and I was determined to conquer it.

The Tokyo Subway System

I forced myself down into the subway, and put up with the peculiar stares, looks, and nerve wracking masses of people swarming all around me.  I picked three places on the subway map on opposite ends of the city, and threw myself onto the train.  If I could get to those three places, I knew I'd have the city conquered.

And i did it.  Its simple logic, and incredibly well put together.  Everything makes sense.  This is the first difference I noticed from the USA.  Things - even complex and complicated - were done with logic and common sense in mind.  There were no illogical dead ends.  There were no trains that should be going one way according to the map, but ended up going somewhere else, like in the USA.  Things made sense, and any reasonbly intelligent person can conquer the Tokyo subway in a matter of an hour.

The sense of freedom this gave me was amazing.  I no longer needed to worry about speaking Japanese to function.  I could get myself from point A to point B and see everything in between, all on my own.

What I saw in Tokyo is hard to describe in words.  I am so fascinated by interesting places.  I eat it up.  I love weirdness.  I love peculiar people, peculiar places, and peculiar customs.  I attended a movie, sat in our assigned seats, paid $40 just to watch, and enjoyed 100% english version while all the japanese read japanese subtitles.  Odd. ... the food is absolutely amazing.  The streets can be eaten off of.

I could go on for hours.  My pictures dont even begin to capture what this city is like.  You have to make it a destination.
