We took the Benelux Train from Dordrecht, the Netherlands with destinations Antwerp and Brussels at 9.15 a.m. As almost normal, the train had a delay of 15 minutes. If you ever want to take the train from the Netherlands to Belgium and vice versa, make sure that you calulate a delay of 30-60 minutes.
After a ride of 55 minutes we arrived at Antwerpen Centraal, the renewed train station in the centre of Antwerp. We put our luggage in a locker at the station. This locker can be used for a few days; 24 hours will cost € 3,- , € 3,50 or € 4,- depending on the size of the luggage. For a weekend case you can use the smallest locker. It's easy and it's cheap if you want to see the city and you don't want to walk around the whole day with things you don't need.
After we put the luggage in the locker, we went to Antwerpen Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in the world. You will get some impressions of our visit to the zoo in my other blog...
After a long visit in the zoo, we went back to the trainstation to get the luggage. Than we walked to the hotel in the area of the diamond district.
This year the Antwerpen Zoo exists 150 years and is herewith one of the oldest zoos in the world. But this zoo is also one of the most beautiful zoos.
Besides the animals you normally see in a zoo, you will find some statues of animals and other things. One of the statues is from Suske and Wiske, 2 famous Belgium strip characters (in France also known as Bob et Bobbette).
Pictures say more than words, so I hope to give you a nice impression of the zoo with my pictures.
If you want to visit the zoo: the zoo is 50 meters from the train station, so very easy to find.
