Warm Pizza, Hard Rock & Cool Friends
WARM PIZZA, HARD
When making flight arrangements to travel from
Since I was going from one two-day TravBuddy meetup to another, the way to pass the time in beautiful Bogotá was obvious. Let’s throw a TB shindig!
I arrived at the
I must mention that these are two of the dearest and craziest gals I know. I still treasure the day I was at Luby’s home when Idaly was translating the lyrics in Spanish to a song Mark (TheOriginalMC) and I wrote titled, “You are my Underwear.”
YOU
You stick with me through thick and thin
Riding around on my hind end.
No other friend can compare
For you are my underwear.
You are, you are, you are, ah ah
You are, you are, you are, ah ah
You are, you are, you are, ah ah
You are, you are, you are, ah ah
You are the underwear
Oh, you are my underwear
Oh, you are the underwear
I wanted to buy
And finally bought, finally bought, finally bought
With the nylon crotch.
You are the friend that helps me through
When I stinky go-go on you
When I stinky go-go on you
When we stinky go-go… go-go.
When I’m looking down at brown
I don’t mind a bit.
But I get terribly upset
When I’m looking down at…
You are the underwear
Oh, you are my underwear
Oh, you are the underwear
I wanted to buy
And finally bought, finally bought, finally bought
Finally bought, finally bought, finally bought, finally bought
With the nylon crotch.
Before we could get out all the words, everyone in the house was doubled-up on the floor in laughter, including their mother.
Needless to say, we had a wonderful time yakking and catching up on old times and current situations.
Our chuckles and conversation made driving through Bogotá during rush hour traffic a joy.
Thanks to Hugo’s planning and follow through, we met at Bogotá Beer Company in Parque de la 93 at
We arrived a few minutes late and quickly found Hugo. He had staked out a great location inside BBC. Soon, we were joined by Yasmin and her friend, James.

After visiting and enjoying a drink at this lovely place, James suggested we order pizza. Everyone quickly agreed. Our waitress said they only came in one small personal size. She indicated with her hands something resembling a Pizza Hut lunch four-slice pizza. We each decided to order our own.
We kept on chatting. I found out
- Yasmin and James were in town to take Spanish language classes
- Hugo was working in Bogotá as a web designer
- Luby and Idaly were continuing to grow their women’s clothing business
When the pizza came, we were surprised.
Each of our promised small pizzas became delicious eight-slice mediums.
HEY, when in Bogotá, do as TravBuddies do – smile, eat un‘til your stuffed and pack up the rest. Even though everyone enjoyed their meal, we took out three boxes of leftovers.
Luby volunteered to drive us to the nearby Hard Rock Café. As the photos show, we had a ball squeezing all six of us into her car. The marvelous madness of the journey is something I’ll never forget.
Reaching Hard Rock Café, we all became little kids. Yasmin and James dived into the souvenir store looking for “hot” Tshirts with Hugo helping them out and watching in amazement. At the same time, Idaly, Luby and I befriended our waitress, Carla. We giggled, snapped pictures and pretended we were rock stars. Later, everyone joined up and took our final group photos, including the infamous L.A./Las Vegas circle shots.
The clock on the wall told the story. Time may have shut down this wonderful party way to early… but time was also kind to create this wonderful opportunity to catch up with tremendous old friends and meet terrific new ones.
Luby and Idaly graciously took me back to the airport and escorted me as far as they could. As I boarded the plane heading to
