1st two arrived already, so there was a Pre Pre Pre Meet Up: Peru, Philippines, Netherlands & USA;)
September 16, 2008
It was still Tuesday 16th and the Meet Up wouldn't start until the 18th, but Jos and Rene were already in town. Jos had been in touch with Lili, who picked him from the airport and Rene gave me a call, letting me know he arrived early to Lima. Would we leave them alone during his first night in Lima? No way! Please take note that Jos hasn't sleep in almost 24 hrs and Rene was sleeping in buses the past 2 days, so they were a bit tired. So, it might be a quiet Mini Meet Up.
We agreed to meet in Miraflores, in my way I sent a SMS to Jim (the Miraflorino), so he could join us, since he lives really close. Around 7pm I met Rene. I was so happy about seeing him again. He was supposed to be in Chiclayo right now, but he preferred to stay in Lima and take things easy, since he was running from one place to another the past few days. A couple of minutes later Lili and Jos arrived. It was the first time I was meeting Jos in person, but it felt like if we have met before, haha. Lili told me she contacted James (Tarb), and he told her he'd met there, but we were waiting and he didn't show up :( and Jim... he lives close, but now he's a laid back Peruvian, so better let him know where we decided to go, haha. Lili couldn't stay too long, she had a family meeting, so better go to a cafe and get a nice cup of coffee. While we were there Jim arrived, yeah! The 5 of us were just chatting and feeling so excited about this Lima Meet Up. It was first time in Lima for Jos. And Rene has already been here, but he just attended to a Mini Meet Up, so this would be his first Meet Up too, same for Jim. We all were talking so loud and having fun, telling about our travel's experiences, that we didn't listen to Lili's phone. There were 3 missed calles. They should have been from James - Tarb, ugh...
Lili run to his hostel, but he wasn't there. She left him a message giving him my number too and came back. We just crossed our fingers, he could join us... Hopefully he'd be able to do it... Unfortunately Lili had to leave, my dearrrrrrrrrrrrr. We all left the cafe. I was thinking they might want to go to bed, but no after the caffee, were ready for a couple of beers, haha. Ok, where to go? I saw Jim and we both said at same time: Tayta! my favorite (and now TB's favorite too) bar. Wasn't Jos tired? Well, but he was ready for having his first beer in Lima :)
We went to Tayta. When we came in, the manager gave us a huge smile and approached to me. I just told him: I might be coming daily with friends, so be ready for us! haha. He was more than happy and would take good care of us ;). We got a table and started to drink, first a cocktail and then ordered a pitcher of beer. We kept on chatting and knowing each other better, haha. What I love about this meeting is that there was no need to break the ice, since the minute we met in front of the church before going to the cafe, the ice has already been broken, haha. We were just happy friends hanging out together and invading the city on a Tuesday. A loooooong week has already started ;)
ok, here are the attendants:
Netherlands: Jos (jos-nijenhuis)
Philippines: Rene (RENESO)
Peru: Lili (liliana77), Yadi (yadilitta)
Miraflores, haha: Jim (JimLNA)
