A Little Bubbly...An Afternoon at Domaine Chandon

Taking a break before we started the tour!

After leaving V Sattui, we hurridly caravaned down to Domaine Chandon in hopes of catching the last tour of the day, however, traffic was not cooperating.  Without a doubt, one of the worst commutes down Hwy 29 that I've seen in a number of years.  We managed to make it with about 20 minutes to spare and began chatting it up with the guy working the counter, Brock.  I think he may have been a little intimidated b us at first but we proved to be harmless!

We decided to check out the grounds and watched the Chandon film which was rather interesting given the amount of wine we already consumed and being "stuck" with the newly married couple, we were like high school students out one night without our parents. Fortunately, it was just us in the theater as I am sure we were loud enough to offend anyone within ear shot! :-D We then moved out to the waiting area and still had time to kill so us girls tried to come up with any bizarre photo opportunities we could.

BROCK!!! :D
I think poor Steph has been influenced by all the nutty TB photos she sees on my blogs!! HA HA.  I've further corrupted her!!! :-)

Finally our tour was ready and we were originally told Matt was our guide but we ended up with James instead.  None of us girls were complaining as he was rather easy on the eyes and very interesting to talk to.  He's from LA and has been living up here for about 6 months.  His tour was very informative and I realized listening to him how much I didn't know about sparkling wine.  There are some differences in its production and how to store it.  All of us were intently focused on James and hung on every word he pretty much said *drool drool*.  :-)

Most of our group just paid for the standard tour but Steph, Nick, and I did the Ambassador Tasting which was the tour followed by interactive tasting with the guide (we didn't even know the guide was going to be hot before we bought the tickets.

..honestly!!)  We ended the tour by going outside on a beautiful private area of the patio where they had little tables set up for our tasting.  There was an empty table that Michelle, Jason, Carol, and Sierra hung out at while Steph, Nick, and I proceeded to drink more wine!! Bubbly time!! Wow, we did the Brut flight and they have some incredible sparkling wines.  We even tried one of their "regular" wines - a Pinot Noir that was not too shabby.  It was hard to go from the bubbly to the red wine and back but no complaints here!!!  Carol had gone inside to the restaurant and bought a glass of their red sparkling wine which looked good.  Michelle said it was fantastic so I decided that was what was coming home with me!!!

We sat and chatted with the other people from the tour as well as James.

Steph, me, and Nick after our tasting
There were two guys visiting from Austria who were literally in the States just for the Napa experience which was pretty cool.  The other group were actually from around my area and we started talking about my plans to be in the Netherlands for the holidays and what other areas I "need" to check out on my travels. I talked with James about tattoos and wine and ultimately got his email address so I can send him a link to TravBuddy and the pictures that will ultimately surface of him!!!  Also, I mentioned our French Wine Maker and fellow TB, Frank would be here next summer and he said he could definitely put him in touch with people!

It was then we headed back inside and did a little shopping.  We had to part ways as the gang had to head back into San Francisco as Steph and Nick had a plane to catch for their honeymoon and we kinda needed to get on our way back to Sacramento.

Look at my wine induced talent! :D
I bought my bottle of wine, we bugged Brock for awhile, and then said our goodbyes.  Oh boy, Michelle and I spotted a field of rock mushrooms and that is where the debauchery began.  We must have hung out in front of Domaine taking pictures of various things for about an hour.  There were some great ones and some not so great ones - one of which involved me falling off a pole.  In honor of Angel, we did several jumping photos (although not the smartest idea after a lot of wine and in flip flops!!)  We did a couple great night shots and I think my all time favorites though are of us passed out on the ground!! HA HA HA HA.

We figured it was probably about time to head out, especially since we found out there were a few people in a car who had been watching us the whole time!!! Oooops! LOL.

OH NO!!! Too much wine!!!
Oh well, who cares...we will probably never see those people again, unless of course they are TB members and read this blog and go, "Oooooh, those were the crazy girls in the parking lot!"  :-)

Time to really now head back to Sacramento with a quick detour through Davis to try the Czech restaurant, Little Prague!
