Ever thought about taking a month off, and driving coast to coast? In the summer of 2006 we got to do just that! We traveled from Connecticut to the Pacific and back, visiting as many National Parks and Attractions as we could, tent camping along the way. Here is our story!

We saw some nice sunsets and scenery on our way to Page.  We were getting hungry, so we stopped at a Denny's for dinner. Kind of a strange place!  First, the lady said it would be about a 35 minute wait for dinner...even though the place was practically empty. Our waiter, "JayThor", seemed to be new, he was very slow.  When our drinks seemed to be taking forever, Dawn complained to one of the waitresses, who immediately brought her coffee.  When "JayThor" finally came by with her coffee, and saw she already had it, he just said "OH," and walked away!   Meanwhile, 4 cute girls came in and immediately got served by some old guy, who looked more like a dishwasher.  Dawn was annoyed that they got their drinks before us, even though they came in 10 minutes later!   I had ordered 2 side with my meal, stuffing and applsauce.

doesn't compare with this morning's sunrise, but still nice!
I got the applesauce 10 minutes before the meal, and never got the stuffing!  The meal took so long, I didn't say anything about the stuffing...we might still be there!  So there we were, Dawn, Tyler, and I...with just 1 coffee and a tiny cup of applesause at the table!  We eventually got our food, and it was fine...we even gave JayThor a decent tip, because we figured he was just new, and he didn't seem to know what to do with it! Guess he wasn't expecting one??  He even had trouble working the cash register!   I know there was something strange going on at that Denny's, because as we were going out, they put a sign on the door saying the kitchen was closed, and all they had was cold sandwiches and drinks. (even though Denny's is supposed to be open 24 hours)  In fact, we were the last ones there to even get a hot meal.
Ty took this shot out the truck back window. (We would weave our wet towels into the cargo net to dry them)
Something must have happened there, but we never did find out what!

We continued on into Page, by now it was well after dark. We passed the Glen Canyon Dam and went to a campground at the Wahweap Marina on Lake Powell.   They were closed for the night, but had plenty of spaces, so we just took one and set up the tents.  It was very sandy there, like a beach.  I walked to the closed office and peered in the window, trying to read a sign inside about tours to Rainbow Bridge.  Couldn't read it, will find out in the morning when I check in!
