Mt Rainier

Ever thought about taking a month off, and driving coast to coast? In the summer of 2006 we got to do just that! We traveled from Connecticut to the Pacific and back, visiting as many National Parks and Attractions as we could, tent camping along the way. Here is our story!

Mt Rainier

Mt Rainier National Park
Wednesday-  Got a little lost headed towards Mt Rainier, but eventually we found our bearings and got to the park.  As we drove up the mountain, we were getting in 3 different radio stations on the same channel...Rock, Polka and Mexican, all at the same time!  We alternated between layers of cloud and sunshine on the mountain itself.  It was cloudy and misty by the visitor center.  We had lunch at the gift shop/restaurant there, and tried Rainier Beer. A little bird up there had lunch on us, he was picking dead bugs and bees out of our truck grill!  Tyler bought a couple of wolf wall hangings, in keeping with his wolf motif. Once we got down below the clouds, it was warm and sunny again. This park seemed to eat up the whole day, but it didn't really seem like we saw that much.  I guess getting lost in the morning put us behind, and we never recovered.  That, and the cloud cover kept us from getting a good look at the mountain itself. Oh, well, on to Mt St Helens!
