Las Vegas

Ever thought about taking a month off, and driving coast to coast? In the summer of 2006 we got to do just that! We traveled from Connecticut to the Pacific and back, visiting as many National Parks and Attractions as we could, tent camping along the way. Here is our story!

Las Vegas

Our "campground" in Vegas
Dawn was not at all enthused about being in Las Vegas to begin with, as she hates gambling...but she was just plain embarrassed to be tent camping just outside a major hotel! The rest of the RV park was populated by retirees in their expensive RV's... We were the only tenters there.  ( I thought it was cool...who would have thought you could actually tent camp right on the Vegas strip! )   I took advantage of the hotel pool, hot tub and sauna area one more time, then we packed up, showered, changed, and shipped out! We headed down the main drag, and soon we were on the outskirts of town.  We stopped at Jack-In-The-Box for a quick breakfast on the go, then hit the conveniance store next door for more water, soda, coffee and snacks to replace our ever-diminishing supply.  Next stops, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and Hoover Dam!

'CAMPING on the VEGAS STRIP??'

Now WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT you could pitch your tent in the middle of Las Vegas and camp on the strip! Not me, but you can! There is a KOA RV park just behind the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino...and its a very nice one! Only had 2 tent sites, but they were both available when we got there. Large pool/hot tub complex, sauna, large store, etc. And you can just walk over to Circus Circus for a buffet any time or try your luck at the tables. An interesting experience, for sure!
