Grand Canyon Sunset
Tyler summed it up when he first laid eyes on the Grand Canyon and all he could say was....... (wow.) We got there just before dusk, and arrived in time to see the sunset over the canyon. We had no problem getting a tent spot in the Mather campground within the park. It was a nice corner site in the back, with plenty of room. We set up quickly and headed back to the rim to catch the sun setting. We were also treated to a light show to the east, as there was a thunderstorm rolling by about 5 miles out. Nothing quite like the Grand Canyon in front of you, a beautiful sunset to your left, and periodic lightning flashes to your right! We got some video shots with the camcorder of lightning strikes in the distance, to the east. Once it was too dark to see anything anymore, we went to the park's large grocery store and loaded up on food and firewood. Back to camp, and Dawn made us a nice dinner of kielbasa, mashed potatoes and squash. The stars were very bright here, you could clearly see the Milky Way. If you look close enough, sometimes you can even see satallites passing by. One of the advantages of no light pollution! We made plans to try to get up early the next day, to catch the sunrise over the canyon.
