Benton, Illinois KOA

Benton Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Ever thought about taking a month off, and driving coast to coast? In the summer of 2006 we got to do just that! We traveled from Connecticut to the Pacific and back, visiting as many National Parks and Attractions as we could, tent camping along the way. Here is our story!

Benton, Illinois KOA

scrap wood bonfire!

We traveled into the night until we got to a KOA campground in Benton, Illinois.  The KOA travel guide is a handy thing to have, it has maps of every state with listings of all the KOA's there.   Since we know them to be good campgrounds, we just head for the one closest to our next destination, or at least somewhere along the road to it.    This KOA had plenty of room, so we picked a nice corner site next to a stream and set up.

We made up a nice fire for dinner, using up a bunch of scrap wood we had found in Goblin Valley State Park in Utah, and had been carrying in the back of the truck.  No use saving it anymore, we're getting close to home now!   It was time for laundry again, but the laundry room was closed and locked when we got there...we'll just have to wait til morning for that chore!  Everyone was pretty tired from the days activities, so we went to bed shortly after dinner.
