Monkey Town
May 9, 2008
Just one day trip to this city, Lopburi where the monkey lives :)
We went to the monkey temple or the formal name is Phra pang sam yod.
I don't understand why does the monkey always stay in the temple? How do they know that the temple is the best place and safe for them? How do the first monkey told himself to stay in the temple? Why there? Not only in Thailand but I've seen a lot of monkeys in the temples in Nepal and India also.
Here, one of Lopburi attractions, Phra prang sam yod where the monkeys live. They said that Lopburi has the large monkey population. I went there when I was a kid with my dads. Remember that he told me to do not put my head outside the car and don't give food to them because the monkey would hurt me and for food, they may used to it.
If they used to take food from people, then they would come to wait on the street which could cause an accident. Anyway they aren't tame even they're used to being fed. Some monkeys are aggressive. Some of them take your bags, your wallet, your snack, etc. I think some of you might have some experience like me. They always take mine. I put the rubber in my hair, they climb up and took it!But at Phra pang sam yod, they sell some vegetable - you can buy it to give to the monkeys. You have to be careful because you will never know which one is nice - which is bad.
This city actually often neglected by the tourists. Isn't it because there's nothing to see or it's difficult to go? Hmm .. actually no, if u go to Lopburi in November, you'll see the beautiful sunflower garden that cover the are with the yellow.
THai people go there every year to take nice photos. But I agree, this town isn't the town that you should stay over night because there's nothing much to look around but if you want to feel the local's feeling, yes can do it. Maybe you wake up and see the monkey sleeps with you :)I was there just not over than 3 hours, after fighting with the monkeys we don't know what to do next. I was there in May, there's no festival at that time but if you go there in winter, you'll see something more. Another thing that I like this city is the old buildings. The houses with old style. The cinema, the temple, etc. which you hardly find it in bangkok.
