Yeah! We've arrived on the dock!

I was super excited about spending the day on B's friend's boat.  I was exhausted from hosting a dinner party the night before, but figured a day lounging on the ocean wouldn't be too taxing.  I grabbed some snack foods and met up with B & F and soon we were off to marina del rey.   I rarely ever come out to marina del rey - it's not that far and it's really a relaxing, fun place - I guess I just never really think of it ... but after today's lovely experience, I'll definitely try to come out more.

We met A (the hostess of today's fun boat trip) and her 2 adorable dogs - Spike and Daisy.  They were soooo sweet!  Daisy (the larger dog) did not want to go onto the boat at all, but she was being very sweet and subtle about it.

Our ride for the day!
Spike (the small dog) was super energetic and was eager to hop onto the boat.  We had to wait for the ice delivery and the parking permit - during which F and I decided we would buy a boat together someday (maybe in 3 or 4 years).  Granted neither of us knows how to drive or take care of a boat, but A made it sound so easy.  :)

Before we even left the dock, we were stuffing ourselves with food.  Always a bad idea while wearing a bikini but I figured no one would really care if I was a little tubby today, least of all me.  Soon we were sailing around the marina - it was overcast in the morning, but now it was beautiful and sunny with gorgeous blue skies.  I even got to drive the boat for a little bit - super fun.

Daisy and Spike - cutie pies!
But I have to admit I prefer being a passenger so I can sip my wine and enjoy the lulling sensation of the waves and the sun.  I tried to squeeze in a bit of a tanning session by laying out on the front of the boat, but the sprays of water were icy cold so I wimped out after a little while.  F stayed in the boat because she gets motion sickness, but I think she enjoyed playing with Spike and napping.

When we were near the Santa Monica pier, we saw a group of sea lions sunbathing.  They were so cute - and lazy!  A few sea lions couldn't get onto the buoy because there was no room - it was a little sad watching the poor things try to leap up, only to fall back into the water.  They watched the sleeping sea lions in the sun with such envy...

We returned back to the marina in a few hours and were met with a lovely surprise - 3 dolphins cruising around the marina!  So fun.  B and Spike were our spotters and we followed the dolphins around for a bit.  super playful creatures!

When we returned to dock, we were all quite sleepy.   What a lovely day!
