Krakow center is not too big. Everything can be reached by foot and the roads are very easy to read and to get you r way around. I had no trouble navigation. Though i did notice that the people tend to push you around all the time in queues and stuff but i guess this is a culture thing ;-) The roads in Krakow are in good shape because currently everything is beeing renovated.
The old historic center is very clean and organised i never saw to many churches packed in one town center. I especially liked to just walk around in the city there are several well managed walking routes though the cities ( maps are free at the ITMC ).
The town has a great central square were its always busy and stuff is happening. at my visit there was a podium music and dance in the center. The old town had a castle on the side which can be visited for free ( outside ) and seems to be a strange mixture of different buildings and architecture. For 2 SZ you can visit the cave underneath the castle were appearently the legend says a dragon onces stayed. This dragon is now a symbol for this city.
From krakow there are several day trips.
One of the 7 wonders from Poland is located right in Krakow and is also an UNESCO site. The Saltmines are located 30 min drive from old center. The tour takes you 150m underground and shows you various sites with salt sculptures.
It seems that all the time i went in a pub the way to go is down. In Krakow they used old cellars to house the pubs. There are also several restaurants that are located in these old sellers. I noticed that Vodka is the local drink here in Poland ;-) They have some really good ones you have to try when you visit this country.
Construction everywere, Poland is for sure growing economy wise and becoming a western europe country. This reflects in all the road and building construction. Most of the buildings esp. outside the center a poorly maintained and show the traces of the past communism. Italian restaurants everywhere, Why i don't know!
Very friendly people willing to help. A lot of public transport ( trams ), Cheap compaired to western europe. clean and organised (old center). City center is busy everyday and stuff seems always happening there. Very nice and organised walking routes from example jewish center and old center castle.
