Stevie is surprised to read on Page 1 that the world is round and not flat as he had been led to believe! (leading to a sudden need for alteration to the planned itinerary)

'The readers will find in my diary a random collection of what I have seen on the road, views somehow remaining in the heart [...] I jotted down these records with the hope that they might provoke pleasant conversation among my readers and that they might be of some use to those who would travel the same way.  Nevertheless, I must admit that my records are little more than the babble of the intoxicated and the rambling talk of the dreaming, and therefore my readers are kindly requested to take them as such.'

- 'The Records of a Travel-worn Satchel', Matsuo Basho (1644 - 1694)

Dedication

I had been meaning to leave this until my long-rambling journal was concluded but it's been over two years now as I write this in St.Ives today (19/11/10) and three months since I returned from my journeys end.  I'm home, and thinking about home and family and the past (and possible futures) a lot, so why not thank them now :

This journal and whatever is born of it now and in the future is dedicated to my parents, Nigel and Maureen Weselby, without whom none of my journies would have been possible.

And with great thanks also to my sister Katie without whose encouragement I possibly may never have taken the first step of this particular one.

Thank you so much Amanda! Yes, it's over a year now since I hung up my well-worn travel boots (they're still sat in the porch moldering away as I type this now) and I guess I have just about adjusted back to 'normal life'. A necessarily slow process. I will only return to full time employment a week from now so, yep, Normal with a capital 'N' for the foreseeable future. I still need to finish this journal actually...so I will continue to journey through my rich memories for the time being. I hope the path of your present life is vibrant too? x
