Fortress Marienberg and the Altstadt
June 28, 2008
Today we drove to Würzburg. Since I had given my girlfriend a very very old notebook which I had lying around we had to do some shopping in Würzburg. I still don't know why, but I wanted to see some of the sights as well, Fortress Marienburg. I am saying I don't know, because even while the weather was acually not that great the climb up to the fortress was warming. But it is definatly something you shouldn't miss when you're in Wuerzburg.
But I am getting ahead of myself, because first we needed to park the car and go into the town. We did a bit of shopping and after that we went to see the sights like The Church of Our Lady, Alte Mainbrücke (the Old Main Bridge) and the Fortress Marienburg. While walking up to the fortress we saw the käppele, a small chapel.
We took the long way up, which takes about 20 minutes, but is very beautifull, you'll be walking amidst the wine grapes. When comming up to the fortress we sat down on the terrace which had a great view of the city.
