A visit to the Louvre

Louvre Castle
Ah, the Louvre.  Not my first visit.  Our class took a guided tour of the museum, and for that reason alone I rate this as my best visit to the Louvre yet.  The other three times I had gone, we raced around to see the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory, so this time I got to actually relish in some of the artwork I was seeing.  (For instance, I had no idea that "Liberty Leading the People" was housed there, but there you have it...you learn something new every day.)

I was thoroughly impressed with the Mona Lisa when I first saw her at age 10.  Every time I went back I enjoyed looking at her, but this time, as I was with about 30 others who had never seen her, I decided to hang back and look at her from a distance instead of fighting my way through the throngs of people to glance at her for a second before getting pushed out of the way by some other eager tourist...hence why a picture of her is not included here.  The Winged Victory of Samothrace always amuses me...it's sort of randomly placed on a stairway landing, and I think most people are expecting it to be housed in a sculpture gallery with a velvet rope around it telling people to stay away.  At any rate, I rather enjoy my trips to the Louvre, although it is a bit exhausting.  If you're planning on going, plan at least a full day - you really don't want to do much other than that in one day.
