Amanda and me on the Bateaux Mouches
Many visitors to Paris take a ride on the river boats that cruise the Seine, for unparalleled views of some of the city's highlights.  My recommendation, however, is to take them at night.  The city is far prettier when it's all lit up, and, as an added bonus (if you're so inclined), it's far more romantic.

On the last night of our program, we took a ride on the Bateaux Mouches ("Fly Boats").  I'd never done this before, and I very much enjoyed it.

(In the fall of 2005, the Parisian tourism board ran a commercial on TV for the Bateaux Mouches.  It featured two couples sitting near each other at dinner, a young couple - the girl was English, the guy was French - and an old French couple.  The young guy was showering the girl with gifts and speaking in broken English, telling her how much he loved her.  He brought her roses and chocolates, and told her he wanted to take her on the "Fly Boats."

"Fly Boats?" she laughed.

At that moment, a vendor walked into the restaurant carrying roses for patrons to purchase.  The old man waved him away, and his wife sniffed in disdain.  "Tu vois?" she asked the vendor.  "Ni les chocolats, ni les fleurs, ni même les Fly Boats.")

I found that commercial very amusing.
