We got off the RER, wandered around the town for a bit trying to find the castle itself, and then did some more wandering once we reached it to figure out just where to buy tickets to get inside. We came across a nice security guard, and through the magic of feigning that I didn't understand a word of French, we somehow got him to believe that we had already purchased tickets and were just lost. He flirted with us in broken English and let us inside.
(Note: Kids, don't try this at home. Chances are the guards won't be as nice as this guy was...plus, you have to show your ticket to get into the gardens, so we were just out of luck in that respect.)
A gargantuan windstorm had swept the country the year before, and had damaged much of the interior of the palace. The famed Hall of Mirrors was still undergoing construction, unfortunately for Amanda...I do feel kind of bad that she didn't get to see that, as it's really one of the more beautiful areas of the castle, but she did get to see Marie-Antoinette's bedroom. That's a pretty fair trade, right? =)
