Bastille Day

We were all excited to be in Paris for Bastille Day (the French independence day), but unfortunately, none of us really knew what to do for it.  Some of my classmates watched the parade down the Champs-Elysées in the morning, but a group of us had heard that there were fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, so we decided to check that out instead.

We thought we would need to be there early so as to get a good seat...we forgot that France is not the US, and people rarely do things early over there.  We took our homework to the Champs de Mars and waited....and waited....and got up and got lunch, then waited some more.  FINALLY, after about seven hours (I kid you not) of sitting, the fireworks started.  They were well worth it...absolutely beautiful.

If I wanted to ever watch them again, however, I would not get there as early as I did, and I'm not entirely sure I'd be on the Champs de Mars for it.  As the fireworks go off from "behind" the Tower, one would get a better view from the Trocadéro across the river.  I'm sure I'll have ample opportunities in the future to figure out the best way to spend le Quatorze Juillet.
