View from my hotel room, overlooking Place d'Italie
In the summer after my first year at UCLA, I signed on to take a few courses in Paris over the summer with other UCLA students and faculty.  In case you can't tell by my other blogs, I'm a little partial to this city...and the country, in general.  This was my first time to experience Paris as a local, and I fell in love with the city to the point that I didn't want to come home at the end of the month.  Almost any tourist will tell you that Paris is a beautiful city.  In my experience, however, it's unmeasurably better when you're living there, day in and day out, and getting caught up in the excitement of everything.

Students were lodged at the Citadines Apart'hotel, Place d'Italie (13th Arrondissement).
Réstaurant le Samson, one of the two Greek restaurants that catered to our program.
Citadines is a hotel chain for extended stays, or for anyone who wants to have a kitchen at their disposal.  All the amenities of a hotel are there as well.  It's a bit pricey, but I would definitely recommend it to anybody who will be spending a significant amount of time in any given European city.

As for Place d'Italie itself...it's an interesting neighborhood.  Unfortunately, it's in the extreme south-east of town and is therefore not really close to many main attractions.  The Place d'Italie Métro stop is actually a rather large hub, connecting with lines 5, 6 and 7.  That summer, however, one of the lines (I can't remember exactly which one) was closed for repairs, making it extremely difficult to get anywhere directly west of us, as we had to go north or south and then over to get anywhere.  Overall, though, the 13th is a pleasant neighborhood.  It's very quiet and residentially-oriented; if that's what you're looking for, it's a great location. =)
